The only EU event on research & innovation for organic will take place on 24-25 November, on the virtual event platform SpotMe. You are warmly invited to join us in celebrating innovations and discussing research priorities for organics and agroecology with organic actors covering the whole food value chain as well as EU policymakers!

For this year’s edition, TP Organics is partnering with the Horizon 2020 project LIVESEED. There will be opportunities to network and chat with like-minded participants, post relevant information and participate in meaningful debates via discussion boards.

Interested in organic seed & plant breeding?
Seeds are the foundation of farming. According to the new EU Organic Regulation (2018/848) that will enter into force in 2021, derogations to use conventional untreated seeds should be phased out and only organic seed should be used by the end of 2035. The LIVESEED project aims to boost organic seed and plant breeding across Europe in order to reach 100% use of organic seed and adapted cultivars. It involves 50 partners covering 18 European countries. On Day 1 of the Organic Innovations, the LIVESEED final conference for stakeholders and policymakers will take place. On Day 2, Parallel Session II will be dedicated to the LIVESEED European Workshop, which will look at the implementation of the organic seed regulation as well as national progress made in the context of LIVESEED.

Interested in research & innovation to transform food & farming?
Recognising the potential of organic agriculture to drive the transition to sustainable food systems, the European Commission has set the target of 25% agricultural land in the EU under organic farming by 2030 in its Farm to Fork strategy. Research & innovation are key to leverage the organic sector’s potential to make the whole food system more sustainable. It is therefore relevant and urgent to include organic in the implementing Work Programmes of the EU’s new R&I framework programme Horizon Europe, and to give it a meaningful role in the missions and European Partnerships. Day 2 – Parallel Session I will focus on the opportunities for organics in Horizon Europe. After a key-note speech by Emile Frison, member of IPES-Food and the Soil Health and Food Mission Board, there will be a presentation about the Orientations of Horizon Europe by the European Commission. The policy debate with representatives from DG AGRI and DG Research, organic farmer Alfred Grand and Mute Schimpf, food campaigner at Friends of the Earth Europe will focus on the missions as new approach in Horizon Europe, in particular the Mission for Soil health and food.
