Glasgow-based social enterprise supermarket Locavore has won Best Shop of 2022 in the BBC Food & Farming Awards.
Locavore was founded in 2011 with a mission to build sustainable local food system, with benefits for the local economy, environment and communities. As well as now operating five stores in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, it also runs an organic veg box scheme supplied from its own market garden.
The BBC Food & Farming Awards were announced this held in Cardiff earlier this week.
On social media, Locavore said: “:We’re blown away to have won the BBC Food & Farming Awards in Cardiff this week. This is like winning the Oscars for food and we are so humbled and pleased to have been chosen. It’s a really big deal!
Our category was judged by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Leyla Kazim who decided we were worthy of winning the Best Shop or Market award.
We’d like to thank all our customers who support us by using our shops and veg box service. In difficult economic times like now every single penny you spend with us is needed and appreciated; you allow us to carry on the work of building the sustainable food system we need now and into the future.”
