Mark Broomfield has been appointed managing director at Planet Organic, just over a year after founder Renée Elliott regained control of the business she started in 1995.

Broomfield was previously commercial director at upscale London grocery and produce retailer Bayey & Sage, which has 14 stores across the capital. He has also held senior positions at Brakes and Sainsbury’s, and had a stint leading the buying function at Planet between 1999 and 2000.

Broomfield will take over day to day management at Planet Organic, and has been tasked with delivering the vision and business plan that Elliott and her team have been developing over the past 12 months.

Speaking at this year’s NOPEX event April, Elliott said that after a year of restoring stability, “sales at Planet Organic are strong and the business is on track to return to profit in 2025”.

She told a standing-room only audience: “We are re-establishing our values, which are integrity, quality, service – and a mission, to promote health in the community and to promote the Earth’s biodiversity.

The coming year will be a year of investing in the business, focusing on what we have and polishing it up. We done so much in his first year, and we feel like we have only just started.”
