Scottish organic dairy innovator Mossgiel is launching a scheme enabling hotels to replace plastic pots of UHT milk with fresh organic milk in returnable glass bottles.
Mossgiel MD and farmer Bryce Cunningham says the idea behind the initiative was born out of bitter personal experience. Posting on LinkedIn, he said: “You wake up in a beautiful hotel after the best night’s sleep. The sheets are crisp, the blackout curtains worked a treat, and you’re ready to ease into the day with your favourite hot cuppa before a shower.
“You flick on the little kettle, drop a fancy teabag with a string on it into a spotless cup, and wait. But then… disaster. You check the minibar fridge – empty. Your eyes land on two tiny plastic pots of UHT milk, grinning back at you as if to say: “Yeah – you’re not going to the shops on holiday… are you?”
“The kettle clicks. With a sigh, you peel back the thin plastic lid, tip the contents in, and watch your perfect morning brew turn a shade of disappointment. A perfect day, a little bit ruined.”
Mossgiel Organic Milk for hotels will be supplied in reusable glass bottles collected after each stay, and will feature biodegradable seals and recyclable caps.
The world famous Gleneagles Hotel is the first customer of the new scheme, with deliveries starting this week in partnership with Mossgiel delivery partners Clarks Speciality Foods and Lomond Fine Foods.
Cunningham (pictured) added: “We’re absolutely stoked that the internationally renowned 5-star legend Gleneagles will be the first to serve Mossgiel’s new hotel milk. This is the start of something special – because your morning cuppa deserves more than plastic pots!”.
