“Honest, transparent, ambitious”: Mi Eco celebrates gaining B Corp certification

Ethical and sustainable brand sales specialist Mi Eco has this week been celebrating gaining B Corp certification, achieving an impressive first-time impact score of 113.4.

Natural Newsdesk has been talking with Mi Eco founder Arran Lawson about what becoming a B Corp means for the business and the Mi Eco team.

Natural Newsdesk: What was the original motivation to become a B Corp company?
Arran Lawson: Becoming a B Corp was a natural step. In addition to exclusively supporting purpose-driven brands (many of which are B Corps) – Mi Eco was founded to challenge the traditional agency model and prove that commercial success and positive impact can coexist. The B Corp framework gave us a way to formalise that – to hold ourselves accountable, not just for growth, but for the way we grow. It’s how we believe modern businesses should operate: transparent, ethical, and genuinely useful to the world.

NN: How long did the certification process take, how challenging was it for the business and team?
AL: In total, the journey took around 18 months. The biggest challenge wasn’t the paperwork, but finding the capacity and time to rethink how we measure success aligned with B Corp’s requirements (since we did it ourselves, rather than with a sustainability consultancy). We had to look at everything: governance, charitable donations, environmental impact, relationships with partners, etc. It was demanding, but it brought incredible clarity – and will form a significant part of the business moving forwards. The team became more aligned, more transparent, and ultimately stronger because of it.

“It means our story isn’t just about helping sustainable and ethical brands to grow; it’s about growing sustainably ourselves. Practically, it’s embedded in everything we do now”

NN: What does it now mean to Mi Eco be B Corp certified in terms of the story you can tell, and how it affects your business processes and values now and going forward?
AL: Being B Corp validates and recognises what we’ve been building since the beginning – using business as a force for good, and choosing to exclusively support other purpose-driven brands. It means our story isn’t just about helping sustainable and ethical brands to grow; it’s about growing sustainably ourselves. Practically, it’s embedded in everything we do now… from who we partner with, to how we give back, to the way we make decisions as a team. It keeps us honest, transparent, ambitious, and focused on scaling impact, not just revenue.

Since launching in 2022, Mi Eco has grown from a one-person idea into a collaborative ecosystem supporting some of the UK and Europe’s most progressive ethical brands. From its early days challenging outdated sales models, to now becoming a certified B Corp, the company’s journey has been defined by the genuine belief that growth and good can (and should…) go hand-in-hand.
