Bio Company, the Berlin-based organic supermarket chain, says a multi-million Euro investment and store programme puts it in a strong position for market growth.

Bio Company – which operates 58 stores across northern Germany – saw profit growth in 2025, despite a slight decline in sales amid continuing market challenges.

“In fiscal year 2025, we achieved a positive net profit, which was significantly above projections,” said CFO and HR Director Daniela Feldt. At the same time, the company invested more than €3 million in modernizing its stores and in wage increases for its employees. This, the company says, is enabling it to further strengthen its position as market leader among organic supermarkets in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region – and “as the number 3 nationwide”.

In 2025, Bio Company generated sales of approximately €199 million (2024: €201 million).

“We have managed our business very soundly in an exceptionally challenging market situation. The fact that we were able to significantly exceed our earnings targets shows that our strategic measures are working,” emphasized board member Daniela Feldt.

“Subdued consumer sentiment, rising costs, and a continued strong price awareness among consumers were among the key challenges,” added Feldt.

“At the same time, we consciously continued to invest in our locations, our employees, and the future viability of our company. We therefore consider ourselves well-positioned and look ahead with agility and optimism.”

As well as store modernisations and improvements in home delivery services (now moved to the Wolt platform), product ranges have been reviewed and streamlined.

Enhancements were made to the beverage and wine selection, as well as the natural cosmetics range. Bio Company also expanded its dietary supplements section. “These optimizations have proven very successful,” said Nicole Korset-Ristic. “We are also placing a strong focus on customer services.” For example, in 2025, services such as “myflexbox” were launched, allowing customers to pick up their packages from various providers from a parcel station in the store.

The company also plans to increase the number of self-checkout lanes in its stores. “According to a representative survey, this clearly meets our customers’ needs for greater convenience and faster checkout,” said the board member. In addition, the first pilot project with a shop-in-shop system in partnership with eco furniture and clothing specialist Grüne Erde was launched in 2025. This too is to be expanded to several branches in 2026, supplemented by a curated non-food selection.
