Alara Wholefoods is powering up its plant-based offer in time for Organic September with the launch of two gut health focused organic mueslis. 

Alara 30 Plants Muesli and 30 Plants Overnight Oats take their inspiration from landmark research undertaken by the the American Gut Project, which found that people who ate a diet that included 30 or more different plants per week experienced a wide range of gut health boosting benefits. 

The US study, which followed 10,000 people, found that those who achieved the 30 plants a week target had significantly greater microbial diversity in their guts – which has been shown to boost immune function and lower risk of chronic disease like heart disease and type 2 diabetes – than those who ate 10 or fewer. The findings also highlight the importance of nutritional diversity over volume, with the number of different plant species people ate associated with greater gut microbial diversity.
