M&S is investing over £4 million to lower prices on more than 50 organic products to make them more accessible for customers – and a regular, rather than occasional, purchase. Prices in the range will start from 70p for organic garlic and 90p for organic carrots.

The move comes as M&S is investing heavily to double the size of its food business and turn it into a ‘whole shop’ grocery retailer, rather than a top-up shop.

Research shows that around a third of M&S customers buy organic products occasionally. By investing in lower prices, the retailer aims to attract new customers into the category and help existing shoppers to visit more frequently.

M&S continues to invest in larger, more destination-led Foodhalls that offer customers a broader range and an improved shopping experience. In larger, newer Foodhalls M&S is rolling out multi temperature zones for the Organic proposition so customers can shop frozen, chilled and ambient in one place.

Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food, said: “We’re on a journey at M&S Food to become a true shopping list retailer, giving customers more reasons to shop with us more often and for more of what they need each week. Organic is a category with huge potential. That’s why we’re investing over £4 million to lower prices on more than 50 Organic staples, bringing together trusted M&S quality, accredited Organic sourcing at great value. It’s another important step in making M&S accessible to more customers while supporting our ambition to grow the Food business.”
