Herb UK, owner of the natural haircare brands Tints of Nature and Organic Colour Systems, has acquired heritage herbals and supplements brand Bio-Heath Ltd.
“We now give health to the hair and health to the body,” says Herb UK managing director Raoul Perfitt. “It’s the ultimate holistic group.”
Bio Health has been a leading name on the UK medicinal herbal products and supplements scene since its inception in 1981, when it launched a range of seven additive-free supplements under the Pure-fil brand. In 1988, and by now with over thirty products, the company moved to a purpose-built manufacturing plant in Rochester, Kent.
In January 1996 June Crisp took the helm when she became the company’s major shareholder. During this period she pioneered Pure-fil’s extensive range of fifteen more traditional herbal remedies. July 1996 saw Victor Perfitt MBE (Raoul Perfitt’s father), the former owner of herbal medicine specialists Gerard House, join Crisp at Bio-Health. He immediately set about transforming the Bio-Health plant into premises that would be licensed to manufacture medicines. A full manufacturing licence was granted a year later.
Raoul Perfitt says Herb UK’s expertise in exporting, marketing and distribution help position Bio-Health for future growth, and allow it to focus on core activity of manufacturing and bottling high-quality herbal medicines and supplements.
The Bio-Health team will be led by Raoul’s brother, Jason Perfitt, who has been the company’s managing director for the past two years.
And while the brothers look forward to working more closely together, it’s time to bid a farewell of sorts to their father – and previous owner of Bio-Health – Victor Perfitt, who has officially retired.
“After dedicating 50 years of his life to herbal medicine in the UK and Europe Dad’s finally made the decision to slow down,” Jason says.
Perfitt will, however, keep “a crucial foot in the door”, continuing as a consultant for the next few years.
