Planet Organic has appointed Howard Tenens Logistics to take charge of its supply chain, as the retailer embarks on an ambitious expansion programme.

The announcement was made by Planet Organic CEO George Dymond during an interview yesterday with Sky News. Dymond also revealed that retailer is “already half way” towards the £30 million target of its latest funding round.

In the interview with Sky’s Ian King, Dymond gave more detail on the retailer’s plans to increase its retail portfolio from the current 13 stores, to 50 by 2025.

As well as announcing the new logistics partnership, Dymond revealed plans to open a new distribution centre in Sunbury-On-Thames later this year. He said: “We (currently) have a very inefficient business. If I told you that every store, every week, has 150 deliveries per store, you can see that reducing that to 12 deliveries with our partners at Howard Tenens is going to make a big difference”.

Discussing likely locations for new store locations, Dymond told Ian King: “If you put our new Sunbury DC at the centre of the map and put a circle around that of a 45 minute drive time, that brings in some very interesting places. So, clearly, suburbs in London, suburbs in South west London and Surrey – Richmond, Teddington, for example. When you start looking outside of London, places like Marlow will be very high on our list”. Dymond added that as a general rule new store locations were likely to be “in wealthier suburbs where you’d expect to find Planet Organic”.
