Pioneering French organic and health foods retailer La Vie Claire is set to open its 400th French store next month.

The new store is in Lyons, and the milestone opening – scheduled for 12 September – will attended by Régis Pelen, the company’s chair.

The nationwide specialist organic chain produced sales worth €385 million in 2021. The retailer also has a limited presence in Switzerland, Belgium, Mauritius and Lebanon.

La Vie Claire has been opening new stores at pace in recent years and last year pledged to keep this at around 25-30 openings annually over the coming few years. Stores typically occupy a small to medium size footprint – 270 m2 on average – which the retailer describes as having a “human dimension”.

One of the keys to the retailer’s success is the depth of its La Vie Claire range – totalling around 2,000 products. It also offers a smaller sub-brand offering low prices on everyday items.
