Leading names from Ireland’s health store scene were recognised last week when winners of the Health Store Heroes awards were announced at this year’s Health Stores Ireland Retailer & Trade Gathering in Shannon, County Clare. The awards were presented by Health Food Business magazine and sister-title, Naturally Good Health.

Five employees from health stores in Ireland were awarded prizes across different categories, recognising those who are going the extra mile in the industry. They were:

Leader of the Pack: Graham Toomey, The Hopsack
Social Star: Deirdre Murphy, Horans Healthstore
Merchandising Maestro: Pamela Mueller, Milltown Organic Store Web Wizard: Joanne Morgan & Gemma Hurley, Evergreen
Rising Star: Megan English, Natural Health Store

The event offered suppliers and retailers the opportunity to network and attend a number of panel discussions, with 40 trade exhibitors and over 60 retailer participants representing more than 70 health food stores in Ireland.

International retail consultant, Tim Radley, author of VM-Unleashed, kicked off the event and set the tone with a positive message for independent retailers with a noted decline in pureplay online retail in favour of bricks and mortar specialists.

In addition to the Health Stores Heroes awards, Health Stores Ireland relaunched its annual retailer awards for 2023 under the banner ‘Putting Our Best Foot Forward’. Twenty-three of Ireland’s retailers received prizes across seven categories, each receiving recognition for their hard work, resilience, and innovation through tough trading years.

David Cann, managing director at Target Publishing, which publishes Health Food Business and Naturally Good Health, commented: “We were delighted to partner with Health Stores Ireland to launch these new awards, designed to recognise those employees who go the extra mile for their store, and for their customers. Health stores are at the heart of Target Publishing and we are delighted to be able to support them in this new initiative.”
