Clearspring removes plastic tray for award-winning snack range

Clearspring is removing the plastic tray previously used to contain its award-winning Organic Seaveg Crispies range as part of a major packaging makeover. The company says the move will eliminate almost five million single-use plastic trays each year, the equivalent of nearly 18 tonnes of waste.

Clearspring says the “much anticipated packaging upgrade” reflects “both the company’s and the UK shopper’s desire to cut out plastic, wherever possible”. It adds that removing the plastic tray will have no impact on the crispness of the product.

The Organic Seaveg Crispies range is also getting a design refresh, alongside the slimmer, trayless packaging. The different flavours in the range, including Organic Original, Chilli, Ginger and Turmeric, will now be easier to spot with a stronger colour differentiation between each variant.

In further packaging changes, the outer pack of the Seaveg Crispies Multipack will now be made from a recyclable paper-based material. The removal of the plastic tray also means space-saving on shelf for retailers, with smaller, more compact shelf-ready trade cases and a reconfiguration of units per case. The Organic Seaveg Crispies Singles range will go from 16 packs per trade case to 20, and the Seaveg Crispies Multipack units will go up from three units per Multipack to five, with six Multipacks in a trade case. Across the entire range, the change in packaging means 25% more product requiring 50% less shelf space.
