Pioneering Scottish organic dairy Mossgiel has secured a national distribution deal with doorstep delivery operator Modern Milkman. Under the partnership, Mossgiel’s organic ‘brewed’ whole milk will now be available across London and selected parts of the UK.

Modern Milkman describes its new partnership with Mossgiel a “game changer”. Posting on LinkedIn, it said: “We’re bringing Mossgeil’s legendary ‘low and slow’ brewed milk to doorsteps across the UK for the very first time. Describing it as “closest thing to raw milk as you can get”.

Mossgiel batch pasteurises its milk using lower temperatures – around 680 C – for a longer period than with the standard continuous flow pasteurisation, preserving lactoferrin (a protein that boots immunity and supports gut health) and offering a richer taste profile.

Mossgiel owner Bryce Cunningham said: “Our partnership with Modern Milkman brings Mossgiel to places we’d never have dreamed of – and now, it’s time for us to show why Scottish Organic Brewed milk is something worth backing.”

Mossgiel Organic Dairy, located on the historic Ayrshire farm once worked by poet Robert Burns, was transformed by Cunningham (pictured) in 2015 into a sustainable, organic, and cow-with-calf dairy in a direct response to what he has called an “unforgiving dairy industry”. In 2016 the farm launched its own brand of milk, focusing on direct-to-consumer sales, including supplying cafes and coffee shops across Scotland. It has also developed branded organic milk dispensing – or vending – machines for schools and commercial clients.

As part of its sustainability mission, Mossgiel works with a small but growing network of local organic farms. Earlier this month, the business began a new partnership with three organic dairies in the north of Scotland, which Cunningham has described as a “landmark expansion” for the business.
