Food For Thought’s (FFT) highly regarded Kingston store closed its doors for the last time on Sunday (17 September).

The announcement came in an understated video tour of the store posted on social media ahead of the Kingston store’s last day of trading, ending with FFT founder Alan Martin declaring “well, it’s good night from me, and it’s good night from him” (him, being fellow FFT director Stephen Desborough).

Explaining the unexpected news, Martin said on LinkedIn that the lease for the Kingston store had come up for renewal and that FFT’s directors had decided not to renew. Food For Thought’s Guildford store and Oliver’s in Kew will continue trading as normal.

Food For Thought is widely regarded as one of Britains most innovative natural products retailers, with a reputation for breaking new products and nutritional thinking. Commenters and shoppers said they were sad to see the store go, with Carsten Holm of NOPEX organiser Diversified UK, calling the business ‘iconic’.
